Charcoal grilled food with an exciting spicy twist is now available at ‘Grillerz’ in Caterham, the first restaurant of its kind in the area.
The restaurant is located where La Fiaba used to be in Croydon Road, next door to Papa John’s.
The manager of the restaurant, Fariha, believes the restaurant will be a hit because it is a new concept. Not only is the food completely fresh and charcoal grilled, there are also spicy dishes to choose from with a distinctly Asian influence.
The menu is very reasonably priced, especially as the restaurant has a Bring Your Own Alcohol policy and no service charge.
When I dined there recently with my daughter Jenny, we had taken a bottle of Rosé wine but I ordered an orange and carrot juice first, saving the wine to have with the main course. The juice was like a smoothie and freshly prepared when I requested it. Orange and carrot is not a combination I had tasted before and it was lovely and refreshing.
For our starters we shared the Grilled Chicken Boti which was sizzling as it was served, and Battered Mince Lamb Pancakes. The Chicken Boti was nice and spicy and the Lamb Pancakes had a mild curry flavour. As Jenny commented, it was different, we had not eaten anything like it before and it was a real treat for the tastebuds. There were other non-spicy options such as the Chicken Wings and the Prawn Skewer. For our main courses, Jenny chose Grillerz Charcoal Grilled Chicken with Spicy Rice and Garlic Bread. She chose Lorena’s Garlic and Mustard Sauce to go with the meal, otherwise she could have chosen the Mild BBQ, Hot Chilli, or Plain Sauce.
To give you some idea of the excellent value at Grillerz, a quarter chicken plus two sides and a regular drink costs £6.49. It is all prepared from fresh ingredients including the chips. I chose the Gourmet Beefburger with choice of chips (original, spicy, smokey or cheesey) that costs £4.99. Up came a thick, juicy burger in a bap with chips that you could tell were freshly cooked, sprinkled with sea-salt, and some side salad on a very large plate. Amazing! I could really taste the charcoal grilled flavour and even Jenny’s garlic bread was charcoal grilled as well. The spicy rice Jenny had with the chicken had a real kick to it, she said.
There are also lamb and vegetarian main course options to choose from and a selection of salads. The choice of desserts includes favourites such as Strawberry Cheesecake and Chocolate Fudge Cake. If you are staying in watching the Olympics, they do takeaway as well!
