A lovely new meeting place for the residents of Caterham- on-the-Hill has opened up at 20a High Street called 'My Fair Vintage'. The owners have created a space that feels like a country kitchen, with pretty tablecloths, china crockery and fresh flowers on every table. Welsh dressers display a range of vintage-style ornaments for sale and homemade preserves. Open Monday-Saturday from 8.30am-4.30pm, the tea rooms serve breakfast, lunch and afternoon tea at very reasonable prices. The lunch menu includes sandwiches, paninis and baguettes as well as salads, jacket potatoes, ploughman's lunches and homemade soup. The day I visited the 'Specials' were Ham and Leek Quiche and Salad for £3.95, Butternut Squash Soup and Crusty Bread for £3.95 and Strawberry Cheesecake for £2.15. My Fair Vintage also sells a delicious range of homemade cakes from just £1.25 a slice. There is a good selection of loose leaf tea to choose from as well as coffee, hot chocolate or soft drinks. There is even a kiddies' corner with junior-sized furniture and colouring crayons to keep the little ones happy while their mums have a catch-up! There were several customers in the tea rooms when I visited, so word is spreading quickly about this delightful new shop. For more information call 01883 337118. |
