On Monday 10th June, Oasis Academy Coulsdon hosted the annual It's a Knock Out competition for people with learning and physical difficulties. The event was run by the Caterham, Oxted and Godstone Lions with the help of other Lions Clubs in the District. The six teams came from The Bletchingley Skill Centre, Colebrook Day Centre, East Grinstead Gateway, Dorking Community Centre, Limpsfield Grange and Bentley Day Service from Banstead. Whether it was to hang washing on a line at the far end of the hall or hit pucks with hockey sticks or guide tin trays round traffic cones, everyone was keen to have a go. There was plenty of good natured competition between the teams and a lot of clapping and cheering went on as well. The teams had the opportunity to play their Joker just once during the games. These were designed and handmade by members of the teams and were excellent in their originality and design. It was a close run thing but the winning team was East Grinstead Gateway. 12 Oasis Academy students joined in by helping and encouraging competitors and the event was attended by Chairman of Tandridge District Council, Beverley Connolly, the Chairman of Mid Sussex, Gordon Maples and Reigate and Banstead's Mayor Lynne Hack. Fran Paveley of Caterham, Oxted and Godstone Lions said afterwards: "It is one of those events that makes everyone smile and all those taking part in the games are the real winners." |
