Essendene Lodge wins 'Gene Hero Award' |

Essendene Lodge School in Caterham-on-the-Hill has been awarded the Gene Hero Award to honour their remarkable fundraising efforts over the last twenty years for the charity, Jeans for Genes Day. Essendene Lodge School have been one of the longest standing schools to raise money for Jeans for Genes Day taking part 19 times out of the twenty years. The exclusive ‘Gene Hero Award has been awarded to 8 schools across the UK and is the first award of its kind from the charity, rewarding outstanding fundraising efforts. The award highlights individual excellences and continual dedication to the charity over the past twenty years. Caroline Harding, Chief Executive of Jeans for Genes Day, comments: “School fundraising is vital to our charity. I want to thank each and every child at Essendene Lodge School who has taken part in Jeans for Genes Day over the past 20 years. They have made it possible for us to provide extraordinary help and support to so many children and families.” Each school receiving the Gene Hero Award will be offered a guest assembly speaker from the charity to give a special praise of thanks to the children and staff, and explain just how fundamental their involvement has been to the charity. Essendene Lodge School has also received a certificate of participation to acknowledge their Gene Hero award, and will feature prominently on the Jeans for Genes Day website to inspire other schools to join them and take part on Friday 18th September 2015. Mrs Haydock, Principle of Essendene Lodge School was delighted to have had their dedicated involvement with the charity acknowledged: “What an honour it is to receive the Gene Hero Award from a charity as established and well respected as Jeans for Genes Day. We are accepting this award on behalf of all the children that we have helped over the years, and all of the children that we hope to help in the coming years. Essendene Lodge School will be wearing their jeans again this September to raise awareness and money for such a vital cause” The official Jeans for Genes Day takes place on Friday the 18th of September 2015 where schools across the country will don their denims in a bid to raise money for children with genetic disorders.
