Sporting talents Olivia Foster and Charlotte Alexander have enjoyed great success in their respective disciplines recently. Cross country runner, Charlotte (Year 9), was selected for the England squad in March, having come in 1st place in the Junior South East England Inter Counties Cross Country Championships, followed by a 5th placing in the Junior English Schools’ Cross Country Championships on 5 March, at Wollaton Park in Nottingham, where Surrey, as a team, also won the Rochdale Trophy, coming in 1st place. In her first outing representing England at the SIAB International Cross Country championships, in Falkirk, Scotland, Charlotte finished in 5th place, as well as securing a 1st place for the eight-strong Junior Girls’ team. Olivia Foster (Year 10) has excelled in her ski racing in Tignes at the end of March, winning the British U16 title for the Super G/GS combined and also winning the Dolphin Ski Club Cup with two of her team mates for the best U16 girls' team. In addition she won a further two bronze medals. Representing GBR at the Children's World Championships in La Scara races in Val d'Isère at the beginning of April, Olivia picked up a top 10 finish in her year of birth in Super G, as well as a very solid two runs in slalom in the U16 category (racing against children a year older than her), in a field attracting 1400 competitors from 30 different countries. Jayne Triffitt, Headmistress, said, “Both Charlotte and Olivia are very talented sportswomen and we are delighted that they have achieved such stunning accolades in their chosen specialisms. The girls contribute enormously, not only to the sports department, but to the school as a whole and their hard work and dedication clearly reaps well-deserved results. ”Olivia is absolutely thrilled and delighted with her wins this season and is looking forward to the next challenge. Charlotte said her experience in Falkirk was “one of the best events I have ever taken part in!” |
