Students at Oasis Academy Coulsdon took their stand in the fight against cancer last week as they organised their very own Marsden March to raise funds for research to beat the life threatening disease. At the start of each academic year students vote for their House charity, and this year Owens House nominated the Royal Marsden as their fundraising beneficiaries. In addition to their normal fundraising events, students decided they wanted to go the extra mile, or 5 to be exact, and organised their very own Marsden March at the Academy.
“I am very proud of the Owens students” says Lisa Roberts, Owens House Leader “they have all recognised the great work that the Royal Marsden carry out and have got behind this event 100% to help raise money. Whether it be collecting sponsorships to take part, designing posters to help promote it, or spreading the word with their friends, they have all done their part.”
Students walked the 5 miles around the sports fields on the afternoon of Thursday 26th May, with approximately 150 students taking part it is estimated that over £400 will be raised for the charity in addition to the normal fundraising monies from throughout the year. |
