The Warlingham-based Prep School set in woodland in Chelsham Greatpark was delighted to share its 30 Year Anniversary with a British afternoon celebrating the 90th Birthday of the Queen. On Friday 10th June the whole school joined together to form one mass choir to sing patriotic songs from around the United Kingdom, including Jerusalem, the Welsh National Anthem, Flower of Scotland, Danny Boy and the National Anthem, before concluding with more contemporary party and dance numbers such as ‘Celebrate’. The school then held an internet broadcast live link via Discovery Education to Windsor Castle to see other children celebrating the Queen’s birthday. Linked up via webcams, the school observed children in classrooms across the commonwealth write poems and create artwork together to form one piece of collaborative work celebrating the Queen’s many achievements. The highlight of the afternoon, however, had to be the smiles that the Parents Association put on the faces of the pupils when they entered the school’s Sexton Hall to a surprise tea party. The hall had been decorated beautifully with bunting and the children enjoyed a traditional ‘British’ high tea of sandwiches, cupcakes and jelly. Dawn Harris, WPS former Nursery Manager, baked a beautiful sponge cake for the whole school and in school tradition the oldest and youngest member of school cut the first slice. Mike Donald, Warlingham Park School Head says “We were delighted to combine our own celebrations with national events surrounding the Queen’s 90th birthday. Our afternoon demonstrated the high regard we have at the school for British values and was enjoyed by all our pupils.” |
