It has been 11 years since we last witnessed the adventures of Woody, Buzz Lightyear et al but finally the latest, and most likely the last, film in Pixar's hugely successful Toy Story saga is upon us - and it doesn't disappoint. Toy Story 3 is more than just a worthy addition to the series, it is probably the best film of the three.

The story picks up 11 years after Toy Story 2 and the toys' once loving owner Andy is now grown up and about to leave for college. A mix-up with a bag of previously adored toys destined for the attic means that the familiar gang soon find themselves donated to a child day care centre, the seemingly idyllic Sunnyside. However, the toys soon realise that the place is in fact nearer a nightmare than a dream, setting in motion a brilliant prison-break adventure. The film is exciting and colourful enough to keep youngsters engaged whilst there are some fairly weighty subjects tackled to satisfy adults. Themes concerning loyalty, abandonment, and the acceptance of one's fate will resonate with older viewers long after the credits roll.

The leap in technology since Toy Story 2 means that this is by far the most visually impressive of the trilogy and certainly ranks as one of Pixar's best looking films. On the other hand, the option to see it in 3-D doesn't really add anything to the viewing experience so it is difficult to justify the extra price over the 2-D screenings. In summary, Toy Story 3, is a beautifully made, very funny, surprisingly moving yet hugely entertaining film that forms the perfect conclusion to what is, arguably, the most groundbreaking film series in the history of animation. Toy Story 3 is on general release this summer.
