Congratulations to all the finishers who successfully completed the tough trail course of the Woldingham Half and Full Marathon on Sunday 28th August 2016. The runners started and finished in the glorious settings of Woldingham School and the field was made up of a mixture of half marathon runners (13.1 miles) and full marathon runners (26.2 miles). The course was a circular course out from Woldingham School onto the North Downs and Vanguard Way followed back from Titsey Plantation back towards the stunning Woldingham Golf Club and back on the private drive through the amazing landscapes into the school grounds at Woldingham School in front of the main school building.
The first runner home in the half marathon was Damian Koziol in 1 hour 39 minutes , the first half marathon lady finished in 1 hour and 59 minutes.
The marathon runners did two laps of the undulating and wonderful vistas of Woldingham despite the changing weather conditions throughout the day marshals and runners smiled throughout the day - the first man to finish the marathon was Kristian Morgan in 3 hours 32 minutes and demonstrated his fitness by doing 22 press ups for his friends watching at the finish line! The first lady home in the marathon was Catherine Ellis in 5 hours and zero minutes and was hugely applauded by the gathering crowds at the school.
One of the more unusual finishers was Ruby the Dog who was ably assisted by her owner Paula Lawton-Archer who both received the specially designed medal that shows the old Marden Park Manor from 1869 where the event starts and finishes - although the building has changed into the school the landscape is unchanged and breathtaking in parts. All the finishers received medals and tee shirts and a generous goody bag with food and drinks at the end and throughout the race.
Full results of all the runners will go up onto the race website www.woldinghammarathon.co.uk and we look forward to seeing everyone again in August 2017.
Thank you to all the kind volunteers and marshals who together ensured the first Woldingham Half and Full Marathon were a huge success.
