Two “national treasures” were among the guests at Lingfield Park Racecourse on Saturday 3rd June to help raise funds for the Orpheus Centre.
Leaving her alter-ego Patsy firmly behind for the day, stage and screen icon Joanna Lumley returned to Lingfield Park on Saturday to host the Orpheus Centre’s fund-raising race day.
“I think I love my Orpheus Lingfield outing as much as any event in the calendar. I meet old friends, hear gorgeous music, lose stacks of cash and love every second,” Joanna laughed.
Among the 200 plus guests were Dame Judi Dench, a long-term supporter of the charity, and musician and composer Sir Richard Stilgoe.
“The Race Day is a joyful day to spend with friends and simply be entertained, all whilst supporting the transformative work that takes place at Orpheus,” said Dame Judi Dench.
Sir Richard, founder and trustee of the charity which helps young disabled adults prepare for independent living through the performing arts, was delighted with the £70,000 raised.
Sponsored by McMillan Williams Solicitors, the afternoon started with a champagne reception, followed by a delicious three course meal with wine, racing tips, a performance by Orpheus students and the chance to win some wonderful auction prizes. Best-selling author and racing guru Felix Francis guided guests through the race-card.
All proceeds from the day will go to the Orpheus Centre in Godstone, Surrey. Orpheus is a registered charity (207493) and an independent college for young disabled adults with a passion for the performing arts. |
