Neighbourhood Inspector Elaine Burtenshaw Three years ago this month the first Burtenshaw's Beat appeared in The Caterham Independent. It has featured a diverse range of topics including my team's successes apprehending criminals, witness appeals to crime, success of community groups such as Neighbourhood Watch, Shop Watch and Country Watch and the reduction that has occurred in crime across Tandridge. Also, the despicable crimes that people commit against others, particularly the vulnerable. I wrote honestly and proudly of completing 30 years' service with Surrey Police in June 2009, so it is with some sadness that I write this month that I am being compulsorily retired next April. I have had a wonderful career with many highs and, like with all jobs, the odd low. I joined as the Service started to move with technology, opportunities for specialisation moved apace and I have been lucky enough to have those opportunities. A lot of my career has been spent in roles that were about partnership and community working. I will be retiring from a role I was posted to in January 2007, as Neighbourhood Inspector for Tandridge, a role that I love! I lead a brilliant team and have formed close working relationships with statutory and voluntary partners and importantly the community. I do intend to thoroughly enjoy these six months, and retire on a high with Tandridge - the best! This is an extremely busy time for my team with Halloween followed closely by Guy Fawkes then Remembrance Sunday the following weekend. You will see my team at all these events and, as in previous years we are working hard to keep anti-social behaviour low during Halloween and Guy Fawkes. We also look forward to seeing many of you at services across the District paying respect to those that gave their lives.
