This month we feature Caterham resident, John Orrick who is both Surrey County Councillor and a Parish Councillor for Caterham-on-the- Hill. Birthplace: Beddington. Marital Status: Blissful (sometimes). Children: Kate and Ian and I am very proud of both. Cars: A Peugeot. Pets: None at present. Childhood hero: Billy Wright and Muhammed Ali. Favourite Food & Drink: Fish and chips; Real ales. Pastimes: Walking, reading and putting on weight. Likes: Politeness, kindness, people. Dislikes: Oafishness, selfishness, poverty. Favourite books: 'Crime and Punishment', 'The Idiot, I Chose Freedom'. Favourite holiday destination: The English countryside. Favourite TV show: History or nature programmes. Who would you most like to throw a custard pie at? There probably aren't enough custard pies in the world to meet my list. Favourite song: 'Hey Jude' by the Beatles. Proudest moment: The birth of my children and generally being a dad. Where would you most like to live? Can't really answer this with anything but Caterham can I? Most embarrassing moment: Putting on a highpitched nasal voice in reply to a phone call from a friend who turned out to be a government official. I had to pretend to call Mr Orrick for him, but don't think it fooled him. Biggest influence on your life: My wife Annie who keeps me grounded (at least that's what she told me to write). Who would you most like to meet? Sadly most of the people I have admired I will have to wait until the afterlife to meet but would happily join a very long queue to meet Nelson Mandela or Muhammed Ali. If you won the Lottery jackpot, how would you spend it? I come from a large family so they would be first in line to share it with. I've always wanted a piece of sculpture to show Caterham's history (e.g. a nurse, soldier and bible) to be displayed on the Hill, and it would be good to support seed-funding for local charities. Plus, of course, the round the world cruise. |
