Daphne du Maurier's classic tale of love, lies and loyalty comes to the Miller Centre stage in Croydon Road, Caterham next month when the company revives Clifford Williams' adaptation of Rebecca. A young, idealistic girl marries an older man and is taken to live on his West Country estate. But her idyll turns to despair as she is dragged into the sinister mystery surrounding the death of her husband's first wife, Rebecca. Her life becomes intolerable under the brooding presence of the menacing housekeeper, Mrs Danvers, who remains fiercely and insanely loyal to the former mistress of the house. The tense and unforeseen denouement is as gripping as ever. A talented and vastly experienced cast is bound to give this timeless crowd-pleaser an extra lift under the direction of the equally gifted Ian Akhurst. To those familiar with the story this production will be a delight. To Rebecca first-timers, it will be a revelation. Rebecca runs from 17th-26th March.
