On Thursday 26th May St Francis' Catholic Primary School hosted the annual Talent Show as part of their very popular Arts Week. Each class chose an act to represent them in the Talent Show. With such a wealth and variety of talent across the school, decisions were made difficult for the judges, who included Sam Gyimah our local MP. Derek Jones, Teaching and Learning Manager for Surrey Arts South West also visited the school to present the prestigious Platinum Award from the national Singing programme as part of the Sing Up Awards, which recognise, celebrate and promote schools that put singing at the heart of school life. He praised the school's commitment to singing: "I am delighted to endorse this Platinum Award for St Francis'. Time and again they have shown that singing is a vitally important part of school life, and they are a wonderful advert for the positive effects brought about by this musical activity. " St Francis' is the first school in Surrey to receive this award, and one of only 80 schools in England, due to its outstanding dedication to singing. Singing can be found at the heart of every activity at the school and pupils are given the opportunity to sing regularly, as soloists, in classes and in various group combinations. This Platinum Award will allow the school to spread their enthusiasm and commitment even further and become an ambassador school. |
