Shelley Filippi, the manager of Church Walk Shopping Centre in Caterham, has plenty to celebrate after winning the award for Manager of the Year of a Small Centre at the National SCEPTRE Awards 2011 last month. The SCEPTRE awards are organized by Shopping Centre magazine and were launched in 2000 to recognize successes and achievements in the Shopping Centre industry. It is third time lucky for Shelley who was short-listed in 2009 for Marketing Manager of the Year and was runner up for Manager of the Year for a Small Centre in 2010. The 2011 SCEPTRE Awards saw a record number of entries and the winners were revealed at the glittering awards ceremony at London's Dorchester Hotel on 21st June, hosted by comedian, actor and writer Miles Jupp. The event raised £15k on the night through the Raffle and the Silent Auction for the Wooden Spoon, the children's charity of rugby. The judges said: "Running this busy neighbourhood centre single-handedly, Shelley Filippi uses a plethora of on-site events to win masses of free press coverage and keep the centre at the heart of its community. This is paying off with footfall beating national benchmarks." After receiving her award Shelley, who joined Church Walk in August 2006, said: "This is absolutely fantastic news! It would not have been possible to be shortlisted without the hard work of the onsite team and the response of our customers to the events we have created over the years. We would like to thank the local shops, charity and community groups we have worked with on projects, that have ranged from a Medieval Day, the Caterham Arts Festival and various school projects. I would also like to say a special thank you to Sonia Hunt, Caterham's Town Crier who has been involved with our promotions from the start in 2006. "I have worked for four shopping Centres and the community spirit in Caterham is by far the best."
