Last weekend saw Surrey ablaze with excitement as thousands watched the London-Surrey Cycle Classic. With the majority of the race taking place within Surrey, it gave a taste of what the 2012 Olympic Road Race will be like next year. Mark Cavendish with a last-minute sprint won the race, commenting on the route: "You can't get a sense of how the 2012 race will go, but you can get a feel for this course and the route is good". But it's not all about elite cycling! Ride the Route Sportive takes place in a few weeks on Sunday 4th September 2011 and follows 65 miles of the Surrey part of the route. The ride is a challenge and open to experienced cyclists. Entry is £25 online and £30 on the day. Entry includes free parking at the start/finish location in East Molesey, medical support, a goody bag, feed station and mechanical support by Sigma Sport. One lucky cyclist will find a signed jersey by Thomas Voeckler. The Frenchman held the yellow jersey from stage 10 until stage 19 of the Tour de France this year.
