Better Than The Best Ever Exam Results! de Stafford school celebrated an even better set of GCSE results this year breaking the record set by last year's students. With an impressive 82% of students achieving 5 or more A*-C grades, this is a 4% increase on the figure for 2010. The number of students leaving school with 5 or more A*-C grades including English and maths remain consistent with last year. The school reported particular success in that 35% of students achieved two or more A*/A grades. Those who deserve a special mention for gaining more than 10 higher grades are Sarah Bailey, Emily Dabin, Will Johnson, Deanna Sharma and Hannah Wingrave. Teachers and parents looked on as the excited students opened their envelopes. In between tears of joy, a delighted parent said: "The school couldn't have done any more. The students couldn't have had any more support. The teachers have been great. We are just so, so thrilled!" Also, congratulations to Fu Kawashima, a year 9 student, who was entered for AS Japanese and attained full marks for her work and was awarded an 'A' which is the highest grade in this exam. de Stafford has demonstrated improvements in all areas in recent years and the last academic year was a particularly notable one for the school which achieved its best ever exam results in August 2010, was recognised by the DfE as being one of the most improved schools in the country in January 2011 and was deemed to be a good school by Ofsted in March 2011. Caroline Longhurst, Headteacher, commented "I am thrilled that our students did so well this year and wish them all the very best for the future. It takes a huge amount of effort by many people to achieve the successes we have experienced to date. I am privileged to work alongside such a talented and committed staff who ensure our students have access to such a high quality of provision on a daily basis." Cllr Sally Marks endorsed this success "To have seen de Stafford School improve over the last few years has been hugely gratifying. Now that it has staked its claim to be amongst the many other good schools in Surrey it must be a school of choice for the residents of Caterham and beyond. I am very proud of the excellent work done by teachers, staff and pupils to ensure that de Stafford is both successful and vibrant. The sky is the limit with this school". The forthcoming academic year looks to be another very promising one for the school which prides itself on being 'at the heart of the Caterham community'.
