Local MP, Sam Gyimah visited Hillcroft Primary School in Caterham-on-the-Hill before half term to take a tour of the school and meet the children representatives on the school council. Mr Gyimah explained his role to the children and how he is here to improve the local community and local business. Earlier in the day Mr Gyimah had visited a local businessman to help him explore ways to make improvements to his business model. Mr Gyimah was treated to a viewing of 'Fairtrade Raps', written by pupils in Years 5 and 6 as part of their work on the topic of 'chocolate'. He also learned about the role of a member on the school council, how funds were raised to buy an extension to the school's trim trail in the playing field and how the school intends to improve. Head teacher, Mrs Stephanie Scutter, said: "I was delighted to welcome Mr Gyimah into our school to showcase all of the children's efforts throughout the first half of term. It was interesting to have the opportunity to hear about the life of an MP and the intergal part they play within the local community. The children enjoyed his visit and we are grateful he took time out of his busy schedule to visit our school."
