On Monday 21st November, Caterham Valley resident, David Larsen, was introduced to the Prince of Wales at a premiere of the World War II film 'Resistance' held in Abergavenny, South Wales.

The film, directed by Amit Gupta, stars Andrea Riseborough, Tom Wlaschiha and Michael Sheen and is about the lives of a small farming community in Wales that is occupied by the Nazis during World War II. Part fact, part fiction, the story, based on a novel by Owen Sheers, is a haunting depiction of how things may have been for communities across the land if D-Day had failed and the Germans succeeded in invading Britain.

'Resistance' is the first film that David Larsen has been involved in producing. He was originally asked to invest in the project and was then invited to join the board of the production company, Resistance Films Ltd as an independent, nonexecutive director.

"The story first appealed to me because it is set in South Wales where I come from," said David. "We were thrilled when Prince Charles came to the premiere. We heard that he especially wanted to attend because he had read and enjoyed the book."

The film was shot in just five weeks in Abergavenny with David on the team to make sure things progressed properly.

"It was quite exciting for the local people," said David. "A number of them offered bed and breakfast to members of the cast and film crew, and they also appeared as extras in a fête scene that appears in the film. It was amazing to see it all come together with such a diverse bunch of people and it was hard not to get emotionally involved. To my mind, producers like Richard Holmes and Amanda Faber are our unsung heroes who probably don't get the recognition they deserve for their contribution to the economy." 'Resistance' has been screened at a limited number of cinemas including the Odeon in Panton Street, Leicester Square. Further screenings will be scheduled in accordance with public demand.
