Dig out those leg warmers and dust down your walkman - St Catherine's Hospice is going back to its roots for a special 1980s themed Midnight Walk this year. As part of the hospice's 30th anniversary celebrations, the much-loved Horsham Park fundraiser, which takes place on Saturday 13th July, is having a 1983 style make-over. Sponsored by Crawley based Welland Medical, this year there is a new seven mile route as well as the traditional half marathon. With this new choice of challenge, the hospice hopes more ladies than ever will step out in style to help raise funds that ensure care for patients living with a terminal illness, and support for their friends, families and loved ones. St Catherine's is delighted to confirm that personal trainer to the stars – including Davina McCall – Jackie Wren will once again be leading the warm up on the night. Jen Wickham, events fundraiser at St Catherine's Hospice, says: "Horsham was one of the first towns to establish a fundraising support group for the hospice at the start of the 1980s. Nowadays, thanks to the generosity of local people and companies, we are able to care for around 1,600 people a year across East Surrey and Mid Sussex. Our Midnight Walk has helped raise over £700,000 towards this care and comfort in its first five years and we're hoping our 30th anniversary event will be the best ever. "The new route means there's something to suit all ladies and it's not a race, but a fabulous, feel-good, fundraising night out. So whether you're fond of Jane Fonda or you left your plimsolls behind with your school days, set yourself a challenge and sign up to our Midnight Walk." Entry is just £15 and you'll get a welcome pack including an eye-catching limited edition Midnight Walk T-shirt and access to training tips and ideas to help boost your fundraising and fitness. You'll also get a welcome back breakfast, hot drinks and a medal to thank you at the finish line. Sign up online at www.stch.org.uk/midnightwalk , by calling Jen Wickham on 01293 447364 or by picking up a form or signing up at the till of your local St Catherine's Hospice shop on Croydon Road, Caterham. |
