Ten year-old Leila Treacher from Caterham Valley is hoping everyone in Caterham will join her in turning off the lights for Earth Hour at 8.30pm on Saturday 23rd March. Leila has already leafleted her neighbours and put an article in the newsletter at her school, St. John's CofE Primary School, but wants to reach even more people. Leila said: "My grandparents are members of the Worldwide Fund for Nature (WWF) and I saw an article about Earth Hour on the back of their WWF magazine. Last year my family and I watched a programme on telly about a village which had switched off every light, electrical item and even the street lights for the hour." The WWF Earth Hour is an annual event that happens all over the world with hundreds of millions of people taking part. More information can be found on the Earth Hour website: earthhour.wwf.org.uk/ Leila said: "I think Caterham could make an effort to do something similar for the planet. I hope everyone in Caterham will join me in helping protect our world for the next generation." |
