Year 8 drama students at the Oasis Academy in Old Coulsdon had a brilliant start to their half term as they enjoyed a special Punch and Judy show, performed by Catherine Learmonth, a Professor of Punch and Judy. The show on Friday 24th May was organised by drama teacher, Miss Lindsay, as a reward for the students' hard work over the term studying Commedia Dell'Arte. Students couldn't resist joining in the fun of the show and were soon waving 'bye bye' to the characters, yelling at Mr Punch when he dropped the baby and threw her out of the window, and laughing at the crocodile when he tried to eat Mr Punch! After the show, students were told the secret of how Punch and Judy Professors project the voice of Mr Punch and were allowed to handle the characters and see how these traditional puppets have been entertaining generations of children since Victorian times. |
