At 11am on Wednesday, 29th May a two minute silence was held in memory of drummer Lee Rigby at the Guards Memorial at the old Caterham Barracks site in Caterham-on-the-Hill.

Local resident Lorraine Edwards organised the occasion, which marked one week since the murder of Lee in Woolwich. Around 50 people including ex-military personnel, local residents and children on half-term holiday came to pay their respects, many of them laying flowers for Lee at the base of the Memorial.

Lorraine said: "I grew up in Caterham and remember when the barracks were open. Both my uncles were in the forces and I just felt that something should be done here to remember Lee. I am pleased so many people have come. I only expected a few friends and family to turn up but thanks to Facebook there are a lot of other members of the community here as well."

Ex-guardsman Peter McNeil said the Oration before the two-minute silence and Caterham Town Crier Sonia Hunt was in attendance to ring her bell to mark the start and end of the silence.
