On Thursday 30th May pupils from Dunottar Senior School in Reigate performed at the Surrey Rugby Annual Dinner and Awards Evening at Twickenham Stadium, hosted by RFU Chairman and England rugby legend Bill Beaumont. Madeline Castrey, 15, and her sister Tildy, 14, sang in their band Charisma, which fundraises for Shooting Star CHASE Children's Hospice, a charity which provides expert care for children with life limiting conditions. At Awards Evening, Charisma performed four songs, which included an encore of 'Swing Low, Sweet Chariot' to which an enthusiastic audience sang along. Their invitation to perform stems from Madeline and avid rugby fan Emily Burrill, 16, rewriting the lyrics to a Seekers song to create 'We are the Harlequins'. The tribute anthem, which also aims to raise money for Shooting Star CHASE, can be seen on Youtube and has had almost 3,000 hits. After enjoying their song on youtube, the Harlequins CEO invited Charisma to watch their song being played on the big screen at half time at the Harlequins versus Exeter Chiefs Aviva Premiership Match on 2nd March at Twickenham. The girls also met their favourite rugby player, Ugo Monye. Charisma's song was such a success that it was then used as the backing music for the season's highlights, recorded by ESPN. Commenting on the Surrey Rugby Annual Dinner and Awards Evening, Tildy said: "There were a lot of teams there so we couldn't show any bias by singing 'We are the Harlequins'! "Nikki Matthews, Head of Dunottar Senior School, said: "I would like to congratulate the girls on all their fundraising achievements so far. They have spent a great deal of their free time using their exceptional musical talents to raise money for charity. They have demonstrated their caring and unselfish nature by giving freely of their time and talents. I am sure we will read about them on many more occasions in the future." The group has so far raised £11,300 for Shooting Star CHASE. In May, Madeline, Tildy and Emily received the award for Fundraising Superstar at the Surrey Young Superstar Awards ceremony. Earlier this year, Madeline received the prestigious Diana Award in recognition of her fundraising work.
