There were cakes, sweets, craft goods and the chance to play a steel pan drum on offer at de Stafford School on Tuesday 9th July, when the students held a fundraising marketplace event in aid of the charity 'CHECK' (Community Health and Education for the Children of Kimilili). In addition to the students and teachers who visited the event during their lunchtime, four very special guests, the four headteachers from Kimilili, de Stafford's link school attended. The marketplace was one of the events lined up during the headteachers two-day visit to the school this week. Rosemary Sitate, headteacher of Kimili Girls Primary School commented on how lucky the children of the school were. She said: "The children are so happy here. In Kimilili the children are unable to sell cakes because we do not have the ingredients to make them – instead they sell craft items and food such as fruit." Geraint Jenkins MBE who has been the link for the schools for many years was really excited to see how the school will be continuing to build on its relationships with the two primary and two secondary Kimilili schools. de Stafford teacher, Kate Harris, said: "The students had spent their own money and time preparing for the event which raised over £350 for the CHECK charity. Well done to them. It was a wonderful way to end the summer term!" |
