On Friday 12th July de Stafford School in Burntwood Lane, Caterham-on-the-Hill resounded to the wonderful sound of a Welsh Male Voice Choir when Côr Y Gyrlais from the Swansea Valley performed there. The choir come to Caterham every two years to help raise funds for C.H.E.C.K (Community Health and Education for the Children of Kimilili). This year's event raised over £1,400 for the charity. The performance was extra special because the headteachers of the four schools in Kimilili were present at the concert. It gave them the opportunity to thank the choir and those in the audience for all their support for the families in Kimilili. Supporting the choir were local young musicians, Lydia Gatward (flute) and her sister Erika (saxaphone and clarinet) and Connor Cooper (piano) who are all ex-students of de Stafford School. The concert also featured sisters Madeline and Matilda Castrey of the singing group 'Charisma' who are wellknown locally for their fundraising concerts in aid of Shooting Star CHASE Hospice Care for Children and Teenagers. After the concert, founder of C.H.E.C.K., Geraint Jenkins MBE, thanked the performers and said: "I am so grateful to everyone who has supported our concert this evening. It has been fantastic to have the four headteachers from Kimilili sharing the concert with us this year. It has been a truly wonderful occasion for everyone. Thank you all for coming." |
