Local police have had several reports recently of people, especially the elderly, being targeted in supermarkets for their credit and debit cards. Police believe someone is looking over the shoulders of the victims and making a note of their pin number, then distracting the victims and taking the card from pockets, handbags and off car seats. The criminals distract their victims by asking them for directions, saying there is something wrong with their car, helping them across a puddle on the path or saying that they have dropped some money. Call 101 for all non-emergency policing matters. Call 999 if you have a genuine emergency requiring the attendance of the police. Call the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555111 to report a crime anonymously. |
