Artists across the county will be inviting the public to view their work during 'Surrey Artists Open Studios' next month. The event celebrates its tenth anniversary this year and is included in the Caterham Festival calendar again this summer. One of the artists opening up her studio is faye Mayo from chaldon who was shortlisted last year for the 'Surrey Artist of the Year' award.
Working from her idyllic home studio, Faye produces stunning ceramic sculpture prized by many.
"For me, opening my workplace couldn't be more natural," said Faye. "I love welcoming people to see work being made as well as to view finished pieces. With clay-building or glazing in progress and my two faithful kilns where all of the magic happens, people seem to feel it is a fascinating place to visit! I enjoy answering questions about each creation and sharing the values, significance and stories behind each piece."
'Surrey Artists Open Studios' is all about artists across the county, including print makers, painters and sculptors, opening their varied and inspiring workplaces to the public. Many are experts in their areas of expression and are delighted to share something of their passion with visitors.
Last summer Faye went on a fascinating 'art trek' with a friend visiting other Open Studios.
"We discovered incredibly talented artists including Carol Harrington and her sumptuous oil paintings and Christine Hopkins with her collages. It was a brilliant way of seeing the way other artists' work and browse their exhibitions," said Faye.
'Surrey Artists Open Studios' takes place from 5th to 20th June. For more information pick up a leaflet at your local library or visit www.surreyopenstudios.org.uk To view the work of Chaldon artist, Faye Mayo, visit www.fayemayo.com
