Earlier this year local resident David Gold, co-owner of West Ham FC and owner of Ann Summers, became patron of the Tandridge Community Fund, a charity set up to help people and organisations within Tandridge. To help raise funds for the charity David and his fiancée Lesley are opening the grounds of their home, 'The Chalet' to the public on Sunday 27th June.
The Tandridge Community Fund was started in 2008 by Oxted resident Mike Moss and a small panel of Tandridge residents. Together they are trying to raise an initial capital sum of £100,000 that will earn interest that can be used to award grants to community projects and activities. As donations continue to build the capital fund, the interest will increase each year, helping more and more local people. The fund is a registered charity, and is administered by the Community Foundation for Surrey. So far the fund has £55,000 – over halfway to reaching its initial target of £100,000. More information about the Tandridge Community Fund can be found at www.communityfoundationsurrey.org.uk/tandridge
The grounds of 'The Chalet' will be in full bloom for when it opens on 27th June. If you have not been before it is well worth a visit. David has constructed his own 19 hole golf course in the 55 acre grounds and the 17th fairway also doubles up as a runway for his Cessna plane. The 10th fairway accommodates one of David's helicopters while the other one sits on the front lawn. Also on view will be a limited edition 'Blue Train' Bentley, Silver Phantom rolls Royce and the oldest surviving F.A. Cup.
David said: "I wish Tandridge community foundation every success with their new venture and Lesley and I are pleased to be supporting it by opening our gardens. We are sure it will be an enjoyable day for everyone who visits."
The gardens at 'The Chalet' in Tupwood Lane, Caterham Valley will be open from 11am to 4.30pm, entry costs £3.00. Ample parking is available and there is some disabled access. Teas, coffee and cakes are being served and David will be signing and selling copies of his autobiography, 'Pure Gold', and donating the proceeds to the Tandridge Community Fund.
