After keeping his parents waiting until the last moment, Ethan John Lincoln Gyimah finally arrived at 5.59am on 04.04.14, weighing 7lb and 5oz (3.33kg) at St Thomas' Hospital, Westminster. The excited first time parents announced the birth on Twitter saying: "Nicky and I are thrilled and grateful for the safe arrival of our son". Sam, who was at the birth, said: "Newborns are such a handful - I didn't realise how busy I would be on my paternity leave. And Ethan likes to sleep during the day and party at night, so we are being put through our paces. But I've enjoyed every minute of it, even the nappy changing, and I wouldn't do it any other way. We have received so many messages of congratulations, which should all be directed at Nicky. Having seen what she went through in labour, I am full of admiration for her". Sam and Nicky said: "We didn’t know the sex of the baby so we had a list of boys names and girls names ready, but we still weren't sure what to call him when he was born. We eventually settled on Ethan, which is an Old Testament name from the Bible, meaning steadfast and optimistic. John is a popular name in Nicky's family and we are both admirers of Abraham Lincoln, especially his humanity and empathy, so it felt right."
