Gary Trodd (Men’s Captain) and Angela Folan (Ladies Captain) at Farleigh Golf Club have chosen to make Marie Curie Cancer Care the club's 'Charity of the Year'. They started their year of fundraising with their Captains Drive- In. Here one member of each team had to wear a yellow Marie Curie Mad Hat or Tabard as a forfeit during the 18 hole competition. Great fun was had by all and they raised an outstanding £761. This was followed by a race night in the clubhouse on 23rd May where over 100 guests enjoyed a lovely meal followed by filmed horse racing. Everyone was eager to place their bets and a magnificent £1,300 was raised at this event. On Saturday 14th June the annual Captains Charity Day took place. Members and non-members competed in various competitions on the day. Family and friends came along to join in the afternoon and enjoyed a BBQ, face painting and a lucky dup. Fabulous prizes were donated by local companies for the Grand Raffle where the star prize (just in time for the World Cup) was a TV and other prizes which include an Android Tablet, a driving experience at Land Rover Solihull, a BMW for the weekend, a Fortnum and Mason Hamper, Whitgift Centre Gift card, John Lewis vouchers, Fine Champagne and so much more. Gary and Angela also be held an auction where everyone was able to bid for various Crystal Palace Football Club signed memorabilia (including signed shirts) and items from stars from the of Coronation Street and Eastenders. At the end of the day an amazing £4,700 was raised for Marie Curie Cancer Care. This will fund 235 hours of nursing care provided by the 13 nurses who work throughout the Surrey area. Angela Folan said: “Gary and I have chosen Marie Curie Cancer Care because of the difference they make to the people who are closest to us all – our family and our friends. They provide nurses who support people with cancer and other illnesses so that they can remain at home as long as possible in comfortable and familiar surroundings.” Gary Trodd said: “Every £20 we raise over the various events planned this year will pay for a Marie Cure Nurse for one hour, helping patients and their families make the most of the time they have left.” |
