The constituency Labour Party in East Surrey is pleased to announce Matt Wilson as its parliamentary candidate in the forthcoming General Election. Matt (41) is married with two sons aged nine and five. Throughout his adult life he has been committed to tackling inequality and building a Greater Britain. He has almost 20 years' experience in the charitable sector, having started out as a youth and community worker and most recently working as Chief Executive of a children’s charity. Commenting on his selection Matt said: "There’s a lot of cynicism about politics at the moment, with people feeling that MPs are out of touch with real life. I’m in politics to counter those opinions. I’m an everyday family man from a very ordinary background who is living proof that if you work hard, make the most of your natural talents and stay true to your values then you can make a big impact in the world. "People around the constituency have been telling me how they are concerned about what kind of world their children and grandchildren are inheriting. Their worries are not unfounded but relate to real life issues such as high tuition fees, low wages, cuts to local services and a lack of affordable housing. And yet I also come across a lot of community spirit too, people instinctively know that these issues can only be addressed by working together." Matt’s selection followed a postal ballot which allowed all Labour Party members right across the constituency to have an equal opportunity to select their candidate of choice from a shortlist of three.
