The Caterham Festival 2015 is well and truly underway, kicked off on Saturday 23rd and Sunday 24th May by the DeFest Music Festival at de Stafford School in Burntwood Lane, Caterham-on-the-Hill. Day 1 saw a line-up of local musicians including talented De Stafford School students who entertained the crowd of youngsters who had come to see their friends performing on stage. In addition to the musical entertainment, spectators had the chance to enter a lively hoola hoop competition organised by Helen Marshall who teaches hoola hoop skills at The Arc. Day 2 featured a line up of swing jive artists and local jazz singers Jenny Green and Danny Fisher. Expert dancers from ‘No-name Jive’ were amongst the many people enjoying a superb day of rock ‘n’ roll entertainment. Fortunately, this year the weather remained dry for almost the entire Festival, with showers holding off until late on Sunday afternoon. Mark Jones, the main organiser of DeFest, said: “The rain came at just the right time to cool everyone down because everyone was getting a bit hot on the dance floor! “It has been an amazing weekend which has made all the preparation work for the last six months worthwhile. We have had people of all ages here to enjoy the music, including a lady of 96! “I would like to say a big ‘thank you’ to all the volunteers who have helped make the Festival a success. They have been brilliant.” |
