David Gold, West Ham Chairman showed his support for Marie Curie by hosting an awareness day for the charity at the West Ham v CPFC match. He invited Karen Green, Volunteer Press Officer along to the match as his guest in the Directors Box. As it is the 30th anniversary of the Great Daffodil Appeal all visitors to the Board Room wore the symbolic daffodil emblem along with West Ham Staff to show their support. This included Chris Kamara (who was commentating on the match), Eastenders favourite Danny Dyer, the late David Gest, (TV personality), David Ian (West End Theatre Producer), Sir Trevor Brooking and Billy Bonds (West Ham Legends), Eddie Izzard (Comedian, Actor and Long Distance Marathon Runner) and Palace Legend Mark Bright. Before the match David Gold posed for photos on the pitch at the Boleyn Stadium. Also Alan Pardew, Manager of CPFC and some of his players joined in as they came out to inspect the pitch. The Marie Curie Great Daffodil Appeal takes place from the end of February until mid-April with hordes of collectors, fundraisers and daffodil-wearers showing their support. A big thank you goes to David Gold for supporting our Great Daffodil Appeal. I was filled with great pride to see the yellow daffodil flower being worn by so many. Marie Curie nurses do a magnificent job in supporting people with a terminal illness. My Mum, Elsie Sands, was nursed at home by a Marie Curie nurse – Patricia Wallace – and she was an angel coming in to our lives at such a difficult time.” |
