Officers investigating the armed robbery at Paul James Jewellers in Oxted High Street on Tuesday 5th September particularly want to hear from anyone who saw a silver Renault Megane in the area at the time of the robbery.
Two masked men entered the shop, threatened two members of staff and then smashed a display cabinet. The staff managed to activate a smoke cloak which caused the shop to fill with smoke. At this point, the robbers left the store with a quantity of jewellery.
There were no customers in the shop at the time and luckily none of the staff were injured.
It appears the men made off in a silver Renault Megane which was found burnt out in Granville Road, Oxted.
DS Leigh Wall said:
“This was a frightening ordeal for the shop staff who are naturally shaken up by the whole incident. Such violent crime has no place in Surrey and we are doing everything possible to find those responsible and bring them to justice.
“We’ve had a huge response from the local community so far and I’m very grateful for the information they have provided. We’re particularly interested to hear from anyone who knows anything about the silver Renault Megane. Did you see it in the area before the incident? Was it parked in your street? Who owns it?”
"I would urge anyone who might have information and who hasn’t already spoken to police to contact Surrey Police as a matter of urgency. Please call 101 quoting reference number 45170097826. You can also use the online reporting system found at https://report.police.uk/ and enter the reference number in the ‘Additional information' section. Information can also be passed anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."
