The idea for a local radio station came closer to becoming a reality on Thursday 16th September when a meeting to discuss the new station took place at The Arc in Weston Drive, Caterham-on-the-Hill. The event had a great turnout with local councillors, young bands, representatives from other community radio stations and many members of the community attending the meeting held by Mark Jones, organiser of this summer's DeFest music festival at de Stafford School in Caterham. The meeting outlined the vision for the future and what progress had been made so far. It also gave local people the chance to ask questions, make suggestions and volunteer to become a member of the management committee. In his introduction to Radio Caterham Mark said: "This radio station is about the community and will provide information on local events whilst playing a wide variety of music. It will give young people the chance to gain qualifications and work experience and we hope to have local schools, churches and unsigned bands having regular slots." He went on to explain that he had been contacted by Andy Edmeads, Assistant Director of The Arc and Dick Moran, Chief Executive of the Caterham Barracks Trust who had offered him a venue in a building opposite The Arc. Mark is now in the process of finding people willing to provide equipment for the spacious room which will become the studio.
