On Saturday 4th September, local award-winning women's barbershop chorus, Surrey Harmony, threw a party to celebrate their 20th anniversary. The chorus was founded in 1990 by Director Jenny Lawson and has steadily grown in numbers to the 87-strong vocal powerhouse it is today. Over the course of its history, Surrey Harmony has won five gold medals, six silver medals and represented the UK on the international stage a record seven times. They are currently ranked 15th in the world. At the party, Jenny Lawson was presented with a handpainted plate detailing the chorus's achievements and 20 Chinese lanterns were released into the Surrey skies. Surrey Harmony will be showcasing their considerable talents in 'The Whole Shebang' at Caterham School on Saturday 23rd October. This one-off show will include Broadway showstoppers, band classics and a further selection of popular numbers as you have never heard them sung before. For tickets contact the box office on 01883 371971. Next year Surrey Harmony will be travelling to Houston, Texas, to represent the UK again at the International Contest, where they hope to further improve their world ranking.
