Knights Garden Centre in Woldingham was delighted to be asked to provide a judge for the new Caterham Prep School Produce Show recently. A team of gardening experts from Knights went along to the school hall to see how many entries had been received and were pleased to see that many of the children had grown vegetables and brought them in for the show. Teacher Barbara Thompson said: "We were concerned that very few people would enter but in the event it has been a great success and generated a great deal of excitement within the school. The children have risen to the occasion and the variety of produce has been just great." The judging took some time and after well over an hour of head scratching and discussion the results were in and the first, second and third prizes for each area of the show had been awarded. The Best in Show Award was won this year by brother's Oscar and Louis Charlesworth seen here with their award provided by Knights Garden Centre. Mr Knight said "It is super to have the opportunity to encourage young people to become gardeners as early as possible. Some of the produce growers in this show should seriously consider entering shows within their local community as they become older, there were some wonderful exhibits. We are always happy to support local schools and this is a prime example of schools and teachers working hard to encourage our youngsters to work towards a degree of self-sufficiency from their own gardens and it's super that we can be a part of that. Special thanks to Mrs Thompson who made it all happen. We are looking forward to next year." |
