The Caterham Carnival Committee have announced the beneficiaries of this year's event, which last year raised £9,000 for local good causes. The 2011 beneficiaries will be the 8th Caterham Scout Group, The Arc arts and recreation centre and the Whyteleafe FC Youth Team. The 8th Caterham Scout group is based in the pavilion in The Village, Caterham-on-the-Hill and is Caterham's newest scout group opening in September 2009. The new group proved to be very popular and within one year they had over 50 members. Penny Stock, Group Scout Leader said: "We are very excited about being beneficiaries of the Carnival and will be using our money to stock up on more tentage and other camping equipment." Dick Moran, Chief Executive of the Caterham Barracks Community Trust, that owns The Arc, said: "We need to raise funds for the second phase of The Arc project, which we will be starting work on shortly. The old gymnasium is to be renovated and turned into a community theatre. We have already been given money for a film screen and are looking forward to creating something really special for young people during phase two." The money for Whyteleafe FC will go towards meeting the FC Charter Standards, enabling the club to run training courses in areas that include coaching, first aid and child welfare. |
