Doctor appointments There has been much talk in the press recently about new GP contracts. These frequently mention the difficulty for patients in obtaining an appointment with their local practice. There is in the ward I represent a development of some 161 homes under construction. Many local people were concerned about the impact this would have on access to doctors. Prior to planning permission being granted, the local authority wrote to the two GPs' practices closest to the proposed estate and asked for their comments. One said they could: "happily accommodate the new patients," and the other said they: "did not have a finite number to reach we keep our lists open." These comments lead one to suggest that those rightly concerned with speedy access to doctors should lobby their local practices to employ more doctors and nurses or provide other means to ameliorate the existing situation, as it would appear that the doctors themselves do not perceive there to be a problem. Cllr. Eithne Webster Westway Ward Tandridge District Council. Eye Witness I would be grateful if you could kindly publish my plea for the witness to an accident I had last June to make contact please. The accident, involving a 407 bus, occurred at the Court Bushes Road bus stop in Whyteleafe at 4.32pm on Thursday 27th June. A young lady named Chloe kindly came to my assistance and said she would be happy to be a witness but unfortunately I do not have her contact details. Name withheld. Can Chloe please call The Caterham and District Independent on 01883 346641 whereupon we can put you in touch with the lady concerned. Thank you.
