The past month has seen four league games, two cup games and one friendly for Whyteleafe FC. It is a month that has also registered no wins unfortunately. The period started off with three straight defeats; 2-0 to Walton & Hersham in The League Cup, 3-0 to Grays in the FA Trophy and then 1-0 to Walton & Hersham in the league. However after that, performances and results improved, with the next three league games all ending in 2-2 draws. Firstly away to Corinthian Casuals when Leafe surrendered a 2-0 lead in the last 10 minutes. Next up was a visit to a very strong Worthing side. Leafe had opened the scoring through Batchelor but Worthing rallied and moved 2-1 ahead until, with about ten minutes to go, Simpson scored to earn a very valuable point. A home game against Sittingbourne followed. By the middle of the second half the visitors had opened up a comfortable 2-0 lead, but Leafe mustered a late rally and clawed back two goals in the last few minutes to snatch a point and send the visitors away very disappointed. Whyteleafe FC Man of the Match, Ricky Borrett with West Ham United chairman, David Gold. The highlight of the month however was the visit from a West Ham XI for a friendly. West Ham chairman David Gold was amongst 400 in attendance, to watch his development squad plus Ivory Coast international Guy Demel and No 2 keeper Peter Kurucz. The game was played in good spirit, and a combination of strong defending, battling midfield play and excellent keeping from youth team keeper Ricky Borrett helped keep the scoreline down to a respectable 2-0 to West Ham. Borrett was deservedly presented with the Whyteleafe Man of the Match award at the end of the game. December sees home games against Crawley Down on the 10th and Walton Casuals on the 17th. |
