On Sunday, March 25th, Purley John Fisher RFC in Old Coulsdon will be hosting the Sainsbury's Happy Valley Sport Relief Mile from 10.30am. Four events will be run on the day. Three of the events are open to everyone and will be run over a one mile, three mile and six mile cross country course through the leafy Happy Valley. The fourth event is an invitation team challenge over the three mile course to all of the local rugby clubs in the Croydon area. In the afternoon there will be an under 18's rugby game, a BBQ and many sporting events provided by Tandridge Trust Sport and Leisure. All monies raised from the four events will go to Sport Relief, who through Comic Relief raises money for projects both in the UK and abroad and supports a number of charities in the Croydon area. Sport Relief has a unique history of dedicated people doing extraordinary things to rise to the challenge. Last September, David Walliams started Sport Relief off with an epic splash when he completed The BT Sport Relief Challenge: Walliams vs The Thames. Despite battling a nasty bacterial bug and bitingly cold water, David swam a staggering 140 miles and has so far raised over £1 million for Sport Relief. Niel Kenny, Secretary of Purley John Fisher Rugby Club said: "This is the first Sainsbury's Sport Relief Mile in this area and it's set to be a great event. So come on, pull your Sport Relief socks up, enter the Mile and do something amazing!" Entrants can register by visiting the Sport Relief website www.sportrelief.com/themile and entering the club's post code CR5 1EE. |
