With the worst of the winter weather arriving during the last month there have been relatively few games to talk about down at Whyteleafe FC. In fact most of the talking points concern off field matters. Since it's inception over 60 years ago Whyteleafe FC has been a members club, in that it has been owned and run by the members of the club. The last decade has been the toughest the club has encountered and rising costs combined with falling numbers using the facilities had seen debts rise. Chairman Mark Coote made a proposal to the members to take over ownership of the club in return for also taking on the debts. The proposal was presented at an EGM and after much debate the members voted in favour of the proposal meaning that, once the legal issues have taken place, Whyteleafe FC will transfer from a members owned club to a limited company. Mr Coote has very ambitious plans for the club and we wish him well in turning things around and building a better future. On the footballing side changes were swiftly made. Manager Nicky English parted company with the club and was replaced by Steve Griffin who appointed Dean Palmer and former Palace and Arsenal professional Brian Sparrow to his coaching team. We'd like to thank Nicky for his hard work during very testing times. Some new signings were also made to strengthen the squad, including former Arsenal player Ian Selley, in the hope that results can be improved and the team can climb out of the relegation place it currently occupies. March could be an interesting month and you can see the new look Leafe in home action on the 10th v Hythe Town, 17th v Dulwich Hamlet and the 31st v Faversham Town. |
