Each year Caterham Bowling Club holds a Charity Day where money is raised for the captain's chosen charity. This year the men's captain, Michael Hewett, chose 'Young Epilepsy'. Michael's vice-captain's son Dennis suffers from epilepsy and has received a lot of support from the charity. On Sunday 25th August the captain asked members to play in fancy dress, rather than club uniform, with the theme being any costume beginning with the letter 'P'. There were pirates, policemen, a pilot, punks, Peter Pan, Popeye, a pastor and one lady arrived in pyjamas clutching her teddy and a hot water-bottle. A gentleman even turned up in a cardboard box dressed as a parcel! The captain went as 'The Pope'. The total raised was £770 which was presented to Wendy Tester from Young Epilepsy before the final match of the season on Sunday, 22nd September. On receiving the cheque, Wendy said: "Thank you very much for this cheque, which will go towards purchasing much needed IT resources for our students at St. Piers College in Lingfield. " |
