Old Cats Full Back Ben Doney scores a try. 2013 ended fantastically for Old Caterhamians RFC as they received full England Rugby accreditation. 2014 has now seen the 1st XV continue their winning streak past the season's halfway point. They are progressing well towards a promotion to Surrey 2 and developing a highly formidable squad. With the club as a whole focusing on the development of the coaches, we have established ourselves as the club of choice for minis and youth rugby in the area. Links with schools and colleges in the community are strengthening, particularly with our participation in the All Schools project with England Rugby. As well as this, the club's Academy squad has more than met the targets set by the coaches in their first season. The Academy train on the first Tuesday of every month, with fixtures once a month on a Friday evening. Players from U18s to U20s are encouraged to join our youth academy as an introduction to playing senior rugby, so get in touch! Old Cats RFC offers competitive rugby for all ages, genders and abilities. Currently we have a recruitment drive specifically for Girls Youth and Women’s rugby as these are the areas least populated. Training for Girls Youth is on a Wednesday evening from 7- 8.30pm while the women train from 7.30pm-9pm. The youth section combines ages from 11-18 year-olds and the senior women is 18 upwards. All abilities, from beginners onwards, are welcome as our policy is an open door to rugby for all. Captain of the team, Stephanie Le Hur says: “Women’s rugby is a fantastic way to meet new people and make friends. It is really good exercise in the fresh air, an excellent way to improve your fitness and have a lot of fun. Please come and join us, we welcome all!” Our aim is to have as much fun and enjoyment within the sport as possible while providing excellent coaching to enable you to reach whatever level of fitness/ability you desire. Since the weather can only get warmer, why don’t you give rugby a try? If you, or any female friends that you know, think that you would enjoy rugby, we would love to see you on a Wednesday training night.
