Team Price. On Sunday 13th April, three sisters and their husbands will be running the London Marathon in memory of their father/father-in-law, John Price, who died of meningitis and septicaemia in January 2013. On Friday 18th January John started suffering from a stiff neck. After ten days of severe flu-like symptoms and two visits to his GP he slipped into a coma and it was only at this point that meningitis was diagnosed. John died two days later without regaining consciousness. He was only 64 – fit and active – he had just skippered a catamaran around the Caribbean and had recently taken up horse riding again. John's three daughters and sons-in-law will be raising money for Meningitis Now when they run the London Marathon. Their running experience varies wildly, ranging from Lee and Ben Pearce, both elite marathon runners, to Anna and Ed Barnes, who have run marathons, Jonny Stockdale, who has done several half marathons, and then Sophie, John’s youngest daughter... when all this started she didn't even own a pair of trainers. Team Price want to raise awareness of meningitis and its symptoms. Many people think it is a disease affecting only children and young people but it can strike at any age and can be deadly within a matter of hours. Knowing the signs and acting quickly are crucial to saving lives. They are aiming to raise over £12,000 and as well as asking friends and family for sponsorship they are also running two charity events on Saturday 29th March. The first event is the 5K Mad March Hare fun run, being held in the beautiful grounds of Woldingham School at 2pm. To enter please visit www.thetriproject.co.uk. The second event is a Casino Evening with live band 'The Zarrs', being held at the Woldingham Club in Woldingham from 7.30pm. Tickets cost £25 which includes casino play money to bet with, prizes to be won and a burgitto (half burger/half burrito). There will be a licensed bar. Tickets can be purchased directly from Lee Pearce, mobile number 07947702860.
